Overview
The Ben Wilcock ensemble is made of renowned Wellington musicians who deliver “a dynamic voice and melodic clarity with jewel-like compositions, whilst staying true to their jazz roots” ( CMNZ).
“Wilcock is an engaging pianist and composer. At times his playing brings to mind Thelonious Monk, particularly in the faster bop tracks.” (London Jazz News).
Audiences can expect to hear a mix of contemporary takes on jazz standards and original melodies, with refreshed rearrangements of classics such as 1930s show tune Star Eyes and Dizzy Gillespie’s Groovin’ High. Featured will be the an original piece from Ben Wilcock’s latest album, ‘The River Tethys’.
